I hate waiting. For me waiting is like a waste of time when I can do things on my own and stop waiting. But impatience always leads to unfavorable result. Impatience while waiting is telling God, “God, you are late. Let me handle it my own.” Yet, in reality this is part of our lives. Maybe you and I are waiting for something differently. Maybe you are just like me – waiting for God to answer a prayer. Days seem like years when we are rushing, don’t they?
I know waiting is hard. It makes us lose hope and sometimes, it bores and tires us. During these times, we see many opportunities to work our way out. So, normally, we escape the waiting part. We rush. We go after our own time lines instead of God’s. What are we supposed to do then?
When we come to the point of losing hope in waiting because there is no sign of God answering it, turn to His Word and find answers. Hold on tightly to His promises.
1. Trust Him more. It’s counterintuitive. When we are losing our grip on waiting, it is hard to trust God. Still, we have to do otherwise. We have to trust Him more. Might be that we are trusting our own understanding about things. Proverbs 3:5-6
2. Look beyond our circumstances. Whenever we focus too much on our situation, we magnify our needs and desires. Thus, the more we have the tendency to satisfy whatever that we are longing or wanting right away.
“And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. And our hope of you is steadfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.” 2 Corinthians 1:6-7
Enduring is part of waiting. Our situation now will not last forever. Whatever we are waiting for to come to pass, it will surely be answered.
3. Put in mind that He knows the future. This is the most assuring thing that we have to rehearse on our mind. Our perspective must be, we only know what’s in this present time but God knows and holds the future. If we believe in that, we will be comforted though we don’t see what’s ahead.
4. Be occupied while waiting. Waiting without doing anything can be so dragging and boring. The cure to avoid this is to still busy ourselves with the things of God. Join ministries, fellowship with other brethren, minister to our friends, families, and those people whom God led into our life.
These verses are helpful to me whenever I am waiting on God. It refreshes my mind and gives me news perspective about waiting on Him.
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
“The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.” Lamentations 3:25
“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27:14
Waiting stretches our faith, not to look like fools but to make us better in trusting God.
Waiting is trusting God.
