What Makes it a Merry Christmas?

Twenty six days to go and it is Christmas. By now, we can already feel the cool wind breeze slightly touching our skin. Christmas trees and Christmas lights can be seen all around. The children’s laughter and giggles remind us that it is time to buy gifts for our loved ones. Christmas bonus and presents are on the list.

What a wonderful picture of this coming holiday is!

On the other side, probably there are some people who don’t feel excited at all for many reasons. It could be that they are going through financial crisis, grief and sorrow, trials, and other reasons that Christmas will just be an ordinary day. People who work abroad feel a sudden pinch of sadness thinking about their families somewhere far away from them.

Our culture tagged Christmas as merely exchanging of gifts, celebration with families, bonuses, money, and other lavishly way of celebrating holidays.

Is this really the true essence of Christmas?

Although there is nothing wrong with those things, we must bear in mind that the real significance of Christmas is this: that more than two thousand years ago, a Person named Jesus was born and He is the Messiah. What makes it merry (joyful) is that because of Him, all of us have the opportunity to have a right relationship with Him so we can be saved. Anyone can be born again through Jesus. Isn’t it merry?

This is the miracle and it is only God who can do it. God’s power made it possible. Like what He said, “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26).

No matter where we are and what situation we are into, Christmas is a season we must be joyful and grateful. It is not about us but Jesus Christ our Redeemer and Savior.

How can we be born again and be saved?

If you believe and admit that . . .

. . . all of us are sinners (you and I are sinners) (Romans 3:23)

. . . the wages of sin is death – physical, spiritual, and eternal death in the lake of fire (hell) (Romans 6:23 a)

. . .  in Him, we will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:15-16)

. . . confess our sins and ask for forgiveness

We are all sinners but the greatest gift of all is when God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. We must believe in our hearts that He died for our sins, rose up on the third day, and ascended to Heaven. Now, we can have the chance to be saved and be with Him eternally.

There is only one way to Heaven and it is through Jesus Christ (John 14:6).

God loves you so much and he is waiting for you to turn away from your sins and follow Him. Receive Hims as your Personal Savior and Lord and start walking with Him.

I pray that this coming holidays will be a time for self-reflection and thanksgiving to the One who offered His life for a sinner like you and me.

Jesus is the real reason for this season!
