5 Ways to Maintain Our Walk with God

Nowadays, distractions come in many forms and shapes. Social medica alone takes so much of our time. Most often than not, spending too much time on it won’t give us any returns. It will just leave us feeling discontented when we see our friends seemingly having a perfect life. Social issues have become toxic and worthless. News is not news anymore. They are just anything that can be shared publicly. Our soul is not really taking something worthwhile for itself. Instead, it is easy for us to get angry, frustrated, and even rude when we comment on news that goes against our beliefs. What scares me the most these days is the fact that truth is becoming relative. Fake news and brainwashing are everywhere.

I told my friend that I get stressed out with what I read on social media, not mentioning news program. She advised me to veer away from it for a while, and I guess that is a great advice. Instead of involving ourselves with non-stop matters of life, it is far beneficial to start evaluating our spiritual life.

“Where I am now?” “Am I still walking with God?”

It is effortless to walk far from God during these days. Discouragements are just hanging around. Problems and difficulties coping with stressful times are weighing our souls and hearts down. I have been discouraged lately with many things. Sometimes, I forget that I can run to God at any moment in time, so I escape from reality. I developed certain bad habits that I realized I need to let go or else, I will be gone far from Him. Two of these bad habits I kept doing were binge-watching Netflix shows and “over resting” if there’s such a thing.

In this world of never-ending battles, how can we stay on track? How can we maintain our walk with Him?

Here are 5 Ways that we can do to maintain our walk with Him and keep us still even when seem to lose sight of Him.

“God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;” Psalm 63:1

1. Never forget to start the day with God.

David never failed to spend time with God early in the morning. And, this gave him the strength to face his enemies. Likewise, we don’t know what lies today. Yesterday might be a good day, but today is different. Learning to entrust Him for our affairs of the day makes a difference in our Christian journey.

Our daily devotion is so important that our day must not feel good without our special time with Him.

2. Read and Study His Word.

Reading His Word keeps us updated with God. Through reading, we will be able to know more about Him. It is for our knowledge. While reading His Word fills our minds, studying His Word feeds our soul. This is where we can deeper relate and communicate with Him. It satisfies our soul because studying His Word gives us deeper understanding of His character.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

There are so many philosophies of men. By knowing our Bible, we can have protection against lies and falsehood that are already rampant these days.

3. Pray.

Prayer is communicating with God. We all know that. But prayer is not only uttering words to the Lord. We can also communicate with God silently. It’s the content of our hearts. I don’t know but sometimes, when my heart is heavy and I am wearied, I just tell the Lord that I am not okay. Then, I just sit in silence. Afterwhile, I become comforted.

“The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.”      Psalm 145:18

He listens when we speak and he draws closer when we call unto Him. I guess, this is such a comforting thought.

4. Minister and Fellowship.

Fellowshipping with our brethren gives us the opportunity to minister to them. The blessing is it keeps us accountable. And accountability with one another is so important in our Christian journey.

“Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.” Proverbs 18:1

A man who does not want to fellowship with other believers will soon drift away. Most often that not, that man wants nothing from others but himself and his desires.

Fellowship is a good way for us to learn more about what God has been doing in the lives of His children. And, this is encouraging. Also, like what I said, it is an opportunity for us to minister to our hurting and suffering brothers and sisters in Christ. And, we will never have that chance if we forsake fellowship.

As it is commanded, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25

5. Share the Good News to others.

One important part of maintaining our walk with God is sharing the Good News to others. This will remind us that no matter how bad our day is, we are Saved. And, we want others to have that joy, too. If we have Christ, then we will be grateful to share this with others who do not have Him.

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:18-20

Maintaining our walk with God requires our effort. On the other hand, walking far from Him is a piece of cake. It is so hard to be back on track once we have drifted far. Keeping our walk with Him is better than trying to get back when we have traveled far away from Him.
