The Joy of Christmas

The roads sparkle because of Christmas lights hanging around the trees. People are hurried in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. There’s joy and excitement around. It’s the most awaited time for many – it is Christmas! The spirit of it scattered in the faces of families, friends, and colleagues. It is the time of the year again – exchanging gifts, Christmas bonus, family dinner, and social gatherings are all around. It’s a picture of gladness and happy tidings!

Christmas is commonly associated with fancy gifts, bonuses, and holiday gatherings. Thus, it brings joy. Yet on the other side, Christmas won’t be the same as with many who are celebrating. Some may feel sadness as they remember their loved ones who passed away. Maybe others have been going through tough times due to financial loss or health matters. It’s hard to feel that gladness through the Spirit of Christmas.

With these opposing sides, let’s remember that Christmas is more than the shallow understanding of what it meant to be. Not all can afford to have new clothes or exchange gifts.  Not all can prepare extravagant dinner or noche buena. But will these stop them from truly experiencing the true joy of Christmas? I believe not. We have to be reminded that Christmas is not about us but Christ.

Jesus was born to save us from our sins.

This holiday season is a good way to reflect on the essence of why Jesus was born. It is because of you and me. He came to die so that our sins might be forgiven.

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)

It is not what we have or what we receive that gives us the joy. Although those glamorous things can add joy in our hearts, but that true joy comes from knowing that from the time Christ was born until now, He is with us through all the walks of life. And more than that, He was born to redeem us from the price that we cannot pay.

He is our Savior. (Luke 2:10-11)

He is our Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

He is our mighty God. (Isaiah 9:6)

He is our Wonderful, Counsellor. (Isaiah 9:6)

Our true joy is in the presence of Christ Jesus.

We can rejoice in the midst of grief and we can hope in despair knowing that He is coming again . . . very soon!

That’s the true joy of Christmas. So, whether you have so much or just a little, you can rejoice in Jesus our Lord.

Thank you, Jesus and we love you! Blessed Christmas everyone!
